What's new in iKnowMyDisplay

What changed in each version, newest first.

Version 1.1.0

New

  • TV remote. Power, volume, arrows, apps (YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+) and inputs for Google TV, Android TV, Roku, LG, Samsung and Philips TVs, and Yamaha receivers as before. The remote has its own menu bar item, which you can hide, and is also in the menu bar popover. Google TV and Android TV pair once with the code the TV shows; Roku needs no pairing. When a TV is off, the remote says so. Your Mac's arrow keys drive it.
  • Check this monitor. See which controls a monitor answers: Works, Doesn't respond or Not offered. It also tells you when a hub, dock or port blocks them. Copy a report to send to support.
  • Auto brightness for external monitors. External monitors follow the built-in display's brightness and learn from your nudges. Macs without a built-in display use a day and night schedule. Off until you turn it on.
  • Smarter Peak brightness. Auto Peak turns it on when the room is bright or when apps you choose are in front. The level is shown in nits where macOS reports it.
  • Switch the desk. Move the monitors you choose to another computer's input and back, from the menu bar, a hotkey or Shortcuts. This works where the monitor accepts input switching over DDC.
  • Apple and USB displays. Brightness for Apple Studio Display, Pro Display XDR and LG UltraFine over USB.
  • Menu bar and Control Center. An optional menu bar item for each display, with brightness, volume and input. Control Center controls on macOS 26 and later.
  • Help. Request a feature, report a problem or suggest a change to a screen, and read the replies in My requests.
  • What's new. A short tour of the new features after each update.

Fixed

  • EDID override. The Install buttons for the presets no longer grey out without a reason, and results show next to the buttons.

Version 1.0.1

Fixed

  • Activating a licence key on first launch.

Version 1.0.0

The first release.

New

  • Brightness, resolution, refresh rate, colour and HDR for every display, from the menu bar.
  • Virtual screens and picture in picture.
  • Plain answers when an external display is at 30 Hz, blurry or flickering.
