Support and contact

Short answers to common questions. A person reads every email.

Contact us

Email support@iknowmydisplay.com. It helps to include your Mac model, macOS version, and how each display is connected. In the app, Diagnosis → Copy report gives us all of that in one go; serial numbers are hidden by default, and you can read the report before you send it.

What you need

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Intel Macs aren't supported. Features that need a newer macOS are hidden on older versions. The compatibility checker shows what to expect from your setup.

Install and activate

  1. After checkout, download the app from the thank-you page and drag it to Applications.
  2. Open it and paste the licence key from the thank-you page or your receipt email.
  3. The three onboarding screens ask whether to turn on history and which optional permissions you want. You can skip both.

Move your licence

A licence works on as many Macs at a time as it is for: 1, 2 or 5. To move it, deactivate it on the old Mac in Settings → Licence & Suite, then activate on the new one. If the old Mac is gone, email us and we'll free the activation.

Permissions and the helper

  • Accessibility is needed only for the brightness and volume keys. Grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  • The helper is optional and installed only when you first add a custom sharp size, where your Mac supports it. It only writes display override files. See its status, or remove it, in Settings → Advanced.
  • The app never asks for Screen Recording.

Brightness or input doesn't change

Hardware brightness, volume and input use DDC, which the monitor and every hop on the way must pass through. Many hubs, docks and KVM switches block it, and DisplayLink never carries it. The Brightness screen shows which method each display uses; when DDC is blocked, the app dims in software instead. Connecting the monitor directly usually brings DDC back.

History is empty

History is off until you turn it on (Settings → History). It records from that moment; there's nothing from before. It records what macOS reports, so a signal drop too short for macOS to notice won't appear.

A display looks wrong

Every change to a mode, scaling or display power undoes itself after 15 seconds unless you choose Keep. Restore everything (⌃⌥⌘R, or the menu item) removes virtual displays, turns every display back on, clears software dimming and reverts the last mode change.

Uninstall

  1. If you used custom sharp sizes, remove the helper in Settings → Advanced. That also removes every override file it wrote.
  2. Delete history in Settings → History if you want it gone too.
  3. Quit the app and move it to the Trash.
